The village of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

The Ways of Santiago de Compostela

The village of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is one of the most famous stages on the Way of St-Jacques-de-Compostelle, also one of the last stages before Spain. Every year, the village is the place of passage for thousands of walkers who want to reach Santiago de Compostela on foot, by the famous Napoleon road. After Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, pilgrims will begin crossing the Pyrenees. The village becomes a meeting point for tourists, pilgrims, history buffs and food lovers.

The Aldudes and Baigorri Valleys

These two valleys are less than 10 minutes drive from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. They are made up of five picturesque villages: Ossès, Saint-Etienne-de-Baïgorry, Les Aldudes, Banca and Urepel. From these villages, you will get superb panoramas over the region, beautiful walks in the heart of villages steeped in history and visits as close as possible to the Basque Country.

The Irati forest

In 45 minutes by car, you will be in the forest of Iraty, in the village of Larrau. On the border between France and Spain, this site represents the largest beech forest in Europe. Wild and protected flora and fauna await you there. You may be lucky enough to come across shepherds who have come with their flocks.

The beach

An hour's drive separates you from the seaside and ocean beaches. Go to Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz or Hendaye, to discover their famous fine sandy beaches where you can indulge in idleness and sunbathing, but also water sports such as surfing. Their city center is also full of monuments and history to discover.
